Vapi and Bland AI are developer platforms; Zian AI is an operated programme. Vapi’s own pricing page lists $0.05/min for call hosting, excluding model-provider costs. Bland’s lists $0.14/min on Start and $0.11/min on Scale with a $499/month platform fee. Zian publishes no price during beta. All figures checked 2 September 2026.
If you are already comparing Vapi and Bland AI, you have almost certainly noticed that the two pricing pages are not measuring the same thing. Vapi charges you for orchestration and lets you pay your own model providers at cost. Bland charges one per-minute rate that covers the language model, speech-to-text and text-to-speech, then bills telephony separately, whether that is your own Twilio account or a SIP trunk. Neither is hiding anything. They are just two different answers to the same question about who assembles the stack.
This post scores all three against one set of criteria. We already publish head-to-heads on each vendor individually — Zian AI vs Vapi for outbound and Zian AI vs Bland AI for outbound. This one is for the buyer who is choosing between the two of them and wants to know whether a third category is even relevant.
How all three were scored
Every Vapi and Bland AI fact below comes from that vendor’s own site — vapi.ai, docs.vapi.ai, bland.ai and docs.bland.ai — read on 2 September 2026. No listicles, no review sites and, deliberately, neither vendor’s comparison page about the other. Where a vendor does not publish a capability, the cell reads “not published”. That is not the same as the capability being absent; it means a buyer cannot verify it without a sales call.
The eight axes are: what you are buying, who builds the conversation flow, who operates it after go-live, channels published, deployment models published, telephony, published compliance posture, and published pricing model.
Vapi: orchestration you assemble yourself
Vapi’s own meta description calls it “The platform for developers creating conversational voice AI.” Its pricing page separates “Vapi Hosting Cost” from “Model Provider Cost (STT, LLM, TTS)”, and the model-provider line reads “At cost ($0 if you bring your own API key)”. Transport is charged by the provider, not by Vapi. So the $0.05/min figure is the orchestration layer; your final per-minute number depends on which speech and language providers you pick.
Three things a buyer should know before building. First, Vapi’s docs publish a Workflows migration guide stating that Workflows was retired on 18 August 2026 and that Assistants or Squads is the recommended replacement — so anything you design today should target Assistants or Squads, not the visual node graph you may have seen in older tutorials. Second, Vapi’s docs index describes inbound SMS as “Let agents auto-start chats from incoming text messages (US only)”. Third, and this is the one that matters most from Australia: Vapi’s data flow documentation names a US region and an EU region only. It tells new self-serve customers to create their account in the US region, says EU support and self-serve growth are frozen until 2027, and directs anyone needing Vapi-hosted EU data residency to Sales. Bland AI: one stack, one rate, deep deployment options
Bland’s homepage title is “Bland | Enterprise Voice AI Platform for Phone Agents” and its security posture leans on owning the models: “With every model custom-made for phone calls, your data never goes through third parties.” Its trust and security page publishes four deployment models — Bland-managed cloud, your own VPC (“Runs inside your AWS, GCP, or Azure VPC.”), on-premise, and air-gapped — and the homepage states data residency as “US, EU, and APAC deployment options on request.”
Bland also publishes a build path that does not require engineers. Its Norm page describes a natural-language builder: “Describe what you need. Norm builds it.” So the common shorthand that “developer platform means you need developers” is not fully accurate for Bland, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Zian AI: the programme is the product
Zian AI is not a platform you build on. It is an operated outbound programme running on SmartReach AI™ and PrecisionPitch AI™, across phone, SMS, email and WhatsApp. Zian has been running outbound acquisition since 2017, at one point operating campaigns for roughly a hundred businesses in the same vertical simultaneously. The learning engine tracks around 420,000 data points across more than 10,000 leads a day, and the site publishes 50,769+ qualified sales appointments set.
The honest cost of that model: Zian is in waitlist and partner-application beta, there is no self-serve signup, and no price is published. Vapi and Bland will both have you making calls today. That is a real advantage and it belongs to them.
On compliance, Zian cedes ground plainly. Our security and privacy whitepaper states that the independent certifications commonly asked about are held by the infrastructure and AI providers Zian builds on, and that Zian does not claim them in its own name. Dollar figures are reproduced exactly as published on each vendor’s own pricing page. Vapi’s page markup declares USD; Bland’s page shows unqualified dollar amounts. Neither publishes an Australian dollar price, so treat every figure below as a US dollar figure and convert before you budget.

Who should pick a developer platform, and who should not
Pick Vapi or Bland AI if any of these are true.
- You have engineering capacity you can commit for more than a launch sprint. The build is the easy part. Retry logic, suppression lists, list hygiene, transcript review and prompt regressions are the ongoing part.
- You want to own the stack. If swapping a speech model or moving a workload into your own VPC is a board-level requirement, Bland publishes VPC, on-premise and air-gapped options and Vapi lets you bring your own model keys.
- Your use case is bespoke. Anything shaped like a product feature rather than a sales programme — in-app voice, identity verification, an IVR replacement — belongs on a platform.
- You need to be live this week and cannot wait for an application. Both are self-serve. Zian is not.
Do not pick a developer platform if the reason you are shopping is that nobody is following up your leads. A platform gives you the ability to make a call. It does not give you a calling programme, and the gap between those two things is where most voice AI projects quietly stall. If you have no one whose job it is to read transcripts every week and change the script, buying more capability will not help. One more filter that decides more evaluations than pricing does: work through your security questionnaire before you compare per-minute rates. On the evidence above, Bland answers more of that questionnaire from published pages than either Vapi or Zian, which is worth more to a procurement team than a few cents’ difference in a headline rate. The layer no pricing page covers: your Australian obligations
If you are calling Australian numbers, the compliance question is not which vendor holds which certificate. It is who carries the obligation. The Do Not Call Register Act 2006 is recorded as in force on the Federal Register of Legislation, checked 2 September 2026, and the obligation attaches to the business whose product is being marketed.

Is Vapi or Bland AI cheaper?
The two pricing pages are not directly comparable and neither vendor is being evasive about it. Vapi publishes $0.05/min for hosting on Build and bills model providers separately at cost, with transport charged by the provider — so your total depends on which speech and language providers you choose. Bland publishes $0.14/min on Start, $0.12/min on Build with a $299/month platform fee, and $0.11/min on Scale with a $499/month platform fee, with the language model, speech-to-text and text-to-speech included and telephony billed separately. Does using Vapi or Bland AI move telemarketing compliance risk onto the vendor?
No. Australia’s regulator is explicit on this. In its Action on spam and telemarketing report for January to March 2022, the Australian Communications and Media Authority states: “Businesses cannot outsource their obligations under Australia’s telemarketing laws via commercial arrangements.” Whichever of the three you pick, the consent evidence and the Do Not Call Register washing records are yours to hold and produce.
Can I self-host or run in my own VPC?
Bland publishes four deployment models on its trust and security page: Bland-managed cloud, your own AWS, GCP or Azure VPC, on-premise with dedicated GPU clusters, and air-gapped. Vapi does not publish a self-hosted, VPC or on-premise option — there is no entry for one in its documentation index at docs.vapi.ai/llms.txt, so a buyer with that requirement should ask Vapi directly rather than assume either way. Vapi does publish regions: its data flow documentation names a US and an EU region, with EU support frozen until 2027 and Vapi-hosted EU residency handled through Sales. Zian does not publish a customer-hosted option; its whitepaper states hosting in the USA, Australia and Europe.
Do any of the three publish WhatsApp or email agents?
Neither Vapi nor Bland publishes WhatsApp or email as an agent channel on its own site as at 2 September 2026. Bland publishes SMS, RCS, iMessage and web chat alongside voice — a wider set of messaging surfaces than Zian publishes, though Bland’s docs list messaging as an Enterprise-plan feature. Zian publishes phone, SMS, email and WhatsApp. If email is central to your sequence, that is a genuine difference; if RCS or iMessage is, Bland is the one publishing it.
I want a visual flow builder. Which one?
Bland publishes Conversational Pathways plus a natural-language builder called Norm, described on its own page as “Describe what you need. Norm builds it.” Vapi retired Workflows, its visual node graph, on 18 August 2026 and its docs now point new builds at Assistants or Squads, which is a code-and-config pattern of specialised assistants handing off to each other. If a visual editor is a hard requirement, that difference matters more than price.
Is Zian AI available today?
