Synthflow’s pricing page publishes a single tier: “Enterprise contracts start at $30,000 annually.” Retell AI’s pricing page publishes pay-as-you-go voice at $0.07-$0.31 per minute with 20 concurrent calls included. Both checked 2 September 2026. Both are voice-first platforms your own team operates, and neither publishes an email agent. Zian AI is the managed third option.
Say the awkward part first. This is published by Zian AI, one of the three products compared, so discount it the way you would discount a Synthflow page about Retell. Every competitor fact here is traceable to that competitor’s own site, the same eight tests are applied to us, and we say plainly where the other two win. If you finish this page and buy Synthflow or Retell, it worked.
We already publish a head-to-head on each: Zian AI vs Synthflow and Zian AI vs Retell AI, plus a wider capability matrix across the category. This page answers the different question — you are already choosing between those two, and want to know whether a third shape of product changes it.
The scoring criteria, stated before the answers
Every competitor cell comes from synthflow.ai or retellai.com, including their documentation and pricing pages, opened on 2 September 2026 — no listicles, no review sites, no vendor’s page about a rival. The tests bite hardest for an Australian buyer, because the answers turn on Twilio’s regional coverage, A2P 10DLC registration in the United States, GDPR data residency in the EU, ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 certification, and the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s Do Not Call Register. Where a vendor does not publish something the cell reads “not published”: we could not find it on their own site, which is not the same as the capability being absent.
- Channels published — what the vendor’s own site says the agent runs on, including region gating.
- Who builds and who operates — you, the vendor, or both.
- Deployment model — vendor cloud, your telephony, your infrastructure.
- Data region — where the vendor says the data sits.
- Integrations — named, documented connectors.
- Published compliance posture — certifications named on the vendor’s own pages.
- Published pricing model — the shape of the bill, quoted from the pricing page.
- What each is genuinely best at — the honest one-line verdict.
Synthflow, on its own pages
Synthflow’s homepage positions it as “Design, deploy, and manage AI agents across every channel — voice, chat, SMS, and more — all from one platform,” built around a visual builder: “Use the visual Flow Designer to define every step, connect APIs, and create agents that act with precision.” It claims “200+ Integrations” — its integrations catalogue names HubSpot, Salesforce, GoHighLevel, Zoho, Cal.com and Zapier among them — and it runs its own telephony network.
Two things to read carefully. The text channels are geographically gated: Synthflow’s chat agent documentation states, under “Region availability”, that “WhatsApp and SMS channels are currently available for US-region workspaces only.” The same page gives the reason — “EU support is not yet available because Twilio does not currently offer EU data residency for the WhatsApp and SMS Conversations APIs, which is required to meet GDPR data processing and storage requirements” — and adds that “Both WhatsApp and SMS channels require you to connect your own Twilio account and use your own Twilio credentials,” with Twilio billing that messaging separately.
And data region is a one-way door — the regions documentation lists Global, US and EU clusters and says “Cluster selection is permanent. The cluster you choose when creating a workspace cannot be changed afterward.” No APAC or Australian cluster is listed.
One more published limit matters for outbound. The workflows documentation — workflows being where outbound campaign logic lives — states: “Workflows are available on the Enterprise plan only and cannot be unlocked on lower plans.” The pricing page lists no self-serve tier at all; the only route published today is the sales-led enterprise contract. Synthflow also publishes something people assume only a managed vendor offers: “Forward-Deployed Engineers launch agents in weeks, not months — taking Voice AI from pilot to production fast, with measurable ROI in the first 60 days.”
Retell AI, on its own pages
Retell is the self-serve one. Its homepage frames the product as “Build, update, test, and deploy AI voice agents without relying on Retell for every change,” built on a drag-and-drop canvas, and states: “Deploy your agent in minutes for inbound calls, outbound campaigns, web, or SMS.” Its channel list is voice, chat, SMS and API, and its integrations directory names Salesforce, HubSpot, Dynamics 365, GoHighLevel, Zoho, Twilio, Vonage, Make and n8n.
Pricing is genuinely public on its pricing page: $0.07-$0.31 per minute for voice agents, $0.002+ per message for chat, $0.01 per SMS, $10 in free credits on the pay-as-you-go tier, and a direct answer to its own concurrency question — “Every account includes 20 concurrent calls for free. Need more? Additional capacity is $8 per concurrent call per month.”
The SMS channel carries the same shape of restriction as Synthflow’s, from a different direction. Retell’s SMS documentation states: “SMS (A2P 10DLC) is limited to US phone numbers, excluding toll-free numbers — the SMS add-on is disabled for non-US numbers in the dashboard.” It also states that “SMS is available for Retell Twilio numbers and custom telephony numbers that have passed A2P applications; Telnyx is not supported yet.”
On data, Retell’s compliance documentation says it does not currently operate services within the European Union, and describes GDPR compliance as delivered via AWS with a GDPR-compliant Data Processing Addendum in its service terms. The same page lists SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2, and requires a signed Business Associate Agreement for HIPAA-covered workloads before PHI is sent through Retell. Per-agent retention runs from 1 day up to 2 years for transcripts, recordings and logs. Its language documentation no longer publishes a fixed count, stating that the dashboard picker shows the live set and updates as you change voice and speech-recognition providers — so treat any article quoting a Retell language number, our own older one included, as stale.
Retell also publishes two things that cut against the easy story about managed vendors: “Professional FDE-led implementation to ensure a smooth and secure deployment,” and an enterprise on-prem option — “Deploy Retell within your own infrastructure to meet strict security and data residency requirements.”
Where Zian AI is different, and where it is not
Start with what is not a differentiator, because four things we might have claimed here are already published by a competitor.
- Done-for-you implementation is not unique. Synthflow publishes Forward-Deployed Engineers; Retell publishes FDE-led implementation. Both will help you get live.
- Running on your own infrastructure is not unique. Retell publishes an enterprise on-prem deployment on its homepage.
- Australian-accent voice is not unique — and Synthflow publishes it more explicitly than we do. Its supported-languages page lists “English (you can choose between American, British and Australian accents).”
- Certifications favour the competitors. Synthflow’s security documentation lists ISO 27001:2022, SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA and PCI DSS V4.0.1. Retell’s compliance documentation lists SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 and GDPR, with a signed BAA required before PHI is transmitted. Zian holds no SOC 2 or ISO/IEC 27001 certification of its own. If a platform-level certificate is a procurement gate, the other two clear it and we do not.
What is actually different is the unit of sale and the channel set. Synthflow and Retell sell a platform your team runs: the FDE gets you live, then the flow is yours to operate. Zian sells the operated programme, not the canvas. SmartReach AI orchestrates which message goes out, on which channel and at which time by country, industry and profile; PrecisionPitch AI continuously split-tests scripts against outcomes. Agents run across live phone, SMS, email and WhatsApp in 30+ languages with voice cloning.
Email is the one channel neither competitor publishes an agent for — Synthflow’s deployment options are telephony, WhatsApp Business calling, websocket, chat, API, workflows, Zapier and GoHighLevel, with no email; Retell’s channel list is voice, chat, SMS and API. Both integrate with email marketing tools, which is a different thing from an agent that writes and sends the follow-up itself. If the motion you need is a phone call chased by an email chased by a WhatsApp message, that is a real structural gap, not a feature-count argument.
The honest caveat: Zian is in waitlist and partner-application beta — no self-serve signup, no free trial, no published price list. Retell will have you dialling this afternoon and we will not. The operating history behind the product, running outbound acquisition since 2017 with a learning engine tracking around 420,000 data points across more than 10,000 leads a day, does not change that.
The three-way table
All competitor cells checked on the vendor’s own site on 2 September 2026, at the pages linked above. “Not published” means we could not find it published on that vendor’s own site on that date.

Neither pricing page states a currency in its visible pricing tables. If you are budgeting in Australian dollars, confirm it before you build a business case.
If you are calling Australian numbers
This row decides it for a lot of Australian buyers, and the answer is the same for both: the text channel is US-gated today. Synthflow’s WhatsApp and SMS are US-region workspaces only; Retell’s SMS is limited to US phone numbers under A2P 10DLC. Voice is unaffected on either platform. If your motion is a call followed by an Australian SMS from the same system, check that before signing — and see what an Australian number actually requires.
Data residency is the second. Synthflow publishes Global, US and EU clusters with a permanent choice; Retell states it does not currently operate services within the EU. Neither publishes an APAC region. Put residency in the security questionnaire in writing rather than reading it off a marketing page.
Whichever platform you pick, the Do Not Call Register obligation stays with you — see Do Not Call Register rules for AI voice agents.
Which of the three to pick
Pick Retell AI if you have engineers, want to start this week, and want the bill to scale with minutes rather than a contract. It is the only one of the three you can sign up for and use today — it publishes $10 in free credits and says you can deploy an agent in minutes — and its pricing is the most legible.
Pick Synthflow if you are an enterprise buying voice specifically, want EU data residency published rather than negotiated, and are comfortable with a sales-led annual agreement. Its published certification set is the broadest of the three, and its Australian-accent support is documented.
Pick Zian AI only if what you want bought is the outbound programme rather than the tooling, and you need email in the sequence alongside phone, SMS and WhatsApp. You will wait: we are in beta with no self-serve path. If you need something dialling on Friday, one of the other two is your answer.
FAQ
Is Synthflow or Retell AI better for outbound calling?
It depends on who operates the flow. Retell AI is self-serve and usage-priced at $0.07-$0.31 per minute with 20 concurrent calls included, so a team with engineers can run a campaign the same day. Synthflow is sales-led, with enterprise contracts starting at $30,000 annually on its pricing page, and campaign workflow logic documented as Enterprise-only. Checked 2 September 2026.
Can either platform send SMS to Australian numbers?
Not as published today. Synthflow’s chat agent documentation states that WhatsApp and SMS channels are currently available for US-region workspaces only. Retell’s SMS documentation states that SMS under A2P 10DLC is limited to US phone numbers, excluding toll-free numbers. Voice calling is not subject to either restriction. Both checked 2 September 2026.
Does an AI voice agent handle Do Not Call Register compliance for me?
No, and no platform can. The Australian Communications and Media Authority is explicit that the Do Not Call Register “does not block calls; it allows businesses to check their calling lists to remove numbers on the register before making calls,” and that after a number has been on the register for 30 days telemarketers can only call you if you have given consent or if they are exempt. That washing obligation sits with the caller. Neither Synthflow nor Retell publishes a Do Not Call Register integration on its own site as at 2 September 2026.
Which of the three publishes EU data residency?
Synthflow. Its regions documentation lists Global, US and EU clusters and warns that cluster selection is permanent and cannot be changed after a workspace is created. Retell’s compliance documentation states it does not currently operate services within the European Union and describes GDPR compliance as delivered via AWS with a GDPR-compliant Data Processing Addendum. Neither publishes an APAC or Australian region.
Do Synthflow and Retell offer implementation help, or is that only from managed vendors?
Both publish it. Synthflow’s homepage states that Forward-Deployed Engineers launch agents in weeks, not months. Retell’s homepage offers FDE-led implementation and an enterprise on-prem deployment within your own infrastructure. Implementation support is not a reason on its own to choose a managed vendor over either of them.
Can I buy Zian AI today?
No. Zian AI is in waitlist and partner-application beta: no self-serve signup, no free trial and no published price list. Zian has been running outbound acquisition since 2017 and agents run across live phone, SMS, email and WhatsApp in 30+ languages, but if you need a platform running this week, Retell AI is the realistic option of the three.
